MINI KNIVES (up to 10cm)
In this category, what you see is very much what you get. There are some very sharp little knives including the Tusa FK10 with the chisel end, and the UK Remora, both quite expensive (this last proved almost impossible to withdraw from its sheath).
For good value we recommend the Markat Shark 9. The Technisub Mini Zak evoked the same high quality as its larger brothers but came free from its sheath in a more satisfying manner than they did. Best for this was the Wenoka Squeeze Lock, but at nearly £40 it seems hugely expensive for such a small item.
Among the one-piece knives, the Zeagle is a useful tool, while the Scubapro K3 looks more like a rather desirable piece of masculine jewellery, the Metal Sub 9 being positioned somewhere between them. Don't expect to cut any net with the net-cutter of the latter. It is purely for show.
When it comes to small folding knives, I think the only ones worth bothering with are the Eagle, in its various sizes and guises, and the closely related Technical Rescue Knife, each good value. Some of these small knives have pouches, whereas others will clip directly to the BC strap or even to the direct-feed inflator hose.
