Hydrotech Evolution First impressions This suit has a well-ruched waist at the back where it is elasticated. This gives it an attractive, fitted appearance. The material has a quality feel to it. A good-looking suit. Price £455 (includes bag, hose and hood). Material and construction Tri-laminate. The stitching looks extremely good and all seams are neatly glued and taped on the inside. Boots Not the most sophisticated of all the suits we looked at they are an ordinary wellie-type, fitted to the leg ends with a smooth joint. Zip The standard cross-shoulder zip appears to be hot-glued to the material of the suit without the aid of tape, but it is very well done with a good overlap of around 25mm. Seals The neck and wrists have latex seals. The neck seal is of a bellows type. The parallel wrist seals are a little short. Wrist seal contact length 30mm. Knee pads There is a double layer of padded suit material at the knees, with drain holes. Valves An Apeks low-profile inflation valve is fitted at the centre of the chest. The auto-dump valve is on the upper arm, mounted on a reinforcing pad. Other features None. Ease of dressing "It was easy to get on and off, and I felt that it fitted well. I was confident I looked good in it." In the water "Under water it felt a little short for me. If the suit is a perfect fit, its lack of elasticity makes some diving manoeuvres difficult. Otherwise, everything was fine, although the shoulder dump needs to be positioned a little further round the arm to the back." Approximate weight of test suit 3kg. Made-to-measure service Yes. Tested by John Gibbons. |
