First impressions
A very basic but strong-looking suit ideal for wreckers
on a budget.
Price £584 (includes hose).
Material and construction Heavy-weight tri-laminate, poorly finished but with seams glued and taped on both sides, and with reinforcing pads at the seam junctions.
Boots Wellie boots good, solid and reliable.
Zip A standard cross-shoulder zip not taped on the inside. We noted that the fabric cut around the zip was already fraying. There is a puny outer zip, and we also noted that the outer zip-cover was already coming unglued.
Seals Latex bellows-style neck seal and mediumweight parallel wrist seals, taped on the outside only.
Wrist seal contact length 40mm.
Knee pads Unusual knee pads "They looked as though they were made from roofing felt!"
Valves An Apeks inflation valve with a large rubber mounting gasket, and an old-style Apeks auto-dump without any visible reinforcement.
Other features Very functional concertina pockets with D-rings and an enormous velcro-covered flap. Elbow pads as per the knee pads.
Ease of dressing "Not nice, but then it is obviously intended for a wrecker! The shins and elbows are like an asphalt roof and the suit material has very little give."
In the water "It was surprisingly comfortable! The pockets were particularly cavernous and accessible, although I suspect they probably acted like sea anchors! I stayed dry."
Approximate weight of test suit 5kg.
Made-to-measure service Yes.
Tested by Gerry Gooch.
