Seaway Arctic Pro First impressions "A BMW among drysuits!" It looks very complicated, with a completely separate and removable outer layer that acts as an overall and takes all the wear. Very well made, it looks Teutonic. "It is what you need with a rubber suit." Price £549 (includes hood and hose). Material and construction A polyurethane suit with an integrated fleece lining hidden under a 1000 denier Cordura fabric outer layer. This latter is attached by velcro. The waist is elasticated. Boots Good neoprene boots with strong soles that are well bonded to the legs of the suit and lined inside. Zip The diagonal front zip reaches far down for those male divers who drink a lot of beer! Seals The conical latex neck seal appears to be vulcanised to the suit. It is not taped. It has a complex neoprene cover that adds thermal protection to the throat area. Parallel latex wrist seals. Wrist seal contact length 40mm. Knee pads There are double-layered knee pads on the outer shell of the suit. Valves The DSV inflator valve has a comfort pad on the inside. Both this and the DSV auto-dump have probably the lowest profile of any on the market. Very impressive. Other features There are velcro straps at the overall's ankles and cuffs. Ease of dressing "I found it very complicated to put on and needed help with it, but I liked the velvety inner lining. It was a cosy fit and it looks good. It is the suit you need if you are going to audition for a part in a movie." In the water "It's a bit like wearing a sofa! Although there is so much of it, I didn't notice the bulk under water. Excellent for wreck diving and regular hard use. I stayed completely dry." Approximate weight of test suit 6kg. Made-to-measure service Stock sizes only. Tested by Gerry Gooch. |
