Typhoon Nexus First impressions Extremely lightweight, rather like a windsurfer's suit adapted for diving by the addition of boots and valves. Ideal if weight might be a problem, but rather fragile though inexpensive in comparison to the other suits. A waist, elasticated at the back, gives slightly fitted look. Price £369 (incl hose). Material and construction The fabric of this suit is a lightweight plasticised cloth. It appears to have single-stitched seams that are taped on the inside. Boots Wellington-style boots with good non-slip soles; taped to the leg on the inside and out. Zip A standard cross-shoulder zip, glued and taped on both sides. Seals The latex parallel wrist seals were very short and seemed flimsy we felt they would not last. There is a bellows-style latex neck seal. Wrist seal contact length 20mm. Knee pads The knees are reinforced with an extra layer of suit fabric stitched on. The small drain holes give that amusing watering-can effect on leaving the water. Valves The standard Apeks inflation valve and auto-dump valve are mounted on rubber gaskets. Other features None. Ease of dressing "I was very conscious of the lightweight construction of this suit. I felt that I might damage it while I was putting it on." In the water "The suit was so light I felt that I had nothing on! It leaked at the crotch, where the tape was already starting to part company with the fabric, and around the dump valve but the wrist seals proved fine. It was nothing more than adequate." Approximate weight of test suit 2.5kg. Made-to-measure service Stock sizes. Tested by John Gibbons. |
