DIG IN DOMINICA
Oxford archaeologists offer Caribbean field school
Sport divers are invited to join an archaeological field school offering hands-on experience surveying and excavating historic wrecks off the north coast of the Dominican Republic from 8-24 July. Training will include using hookah surface air supply, DGPS navigation, magnetometry, artefact mapping, preparing underwater video mosaics and, once all the prep is done, excavation and conservation of finds.
The event is being run by a team from the National Center for Shipwreck Research, Nova Southeastern University and Oxford University MARE. Non-divers can also apply, contributing to surface support, artefact recording and conservation. You need to register by 25 June, and the UK contact for further information, costs and registration forms is Duncan Mathewson, on email ncsr1988@aol.com
