DOLPHINS BEACHED BY STORMS
Storm-force winds have caused the number of dolphin strandings around the UK to double, compared to this time last year. The carcasses of more than 80 animals have been found so far this year. Sixty-five of these were washed up since the start of the fierce storms on 14 January.
The figures have been compiled by the Wildlife Trusts. The organisation is asking divers to keep a look out for stranded dolphins and porpoises, especially during bad weather, and report any strandings.
If you spot a live stranded dolphin or porpoise, phone the RSPCA on 08705 555999. If the animal is dead, report it to the National History Museum cetacean strandings hotline on 0207 942 5155.
