DORSET DOLPHIN DELIGHTS DIVERS
Divers and swimmers visiting Weymouth and Portland have been delighted by the friendly attentions of a 7ft dolphin.
The dolphin appeared last weekend in West Bay, Portland where it interacted with a group of divers. Since then it has visited Weymouth harbour and swum with enthusiastic groups of snorkellers.
BSAC diver Jerry Barrett from UK Aquanaut dive club described his encounter. "My buddy signalled to look behind me, and as I turned I was nose to nose with a dolphin. I instinctively reached out to stroke it, it swam off and circled us, for ages, blowing bubbles, standing on its head and generally messing about in the water. I was in awe."
