DIVER RESCUED FROM FOG
A diver drifted on the surface for over an hour after becoming lost in fog following a scallop dive on Lulworth banks, Weymouth.
Portland Coastguard coordinated the search, which involved several local dive boats, two naval vessels, RNLI lifeboats and the Portland helicopter. The Weymouth based diver had become lost after dense fog closed in during the hour-long dive on Monday 17 June from the RIB China Man. The other three divers in the party had been recovered into the RIB, but the fog became so dense that even the lost diver’s SMB and strobe could not be seen. There was no wind and sea conditions were calm.
He was found close to the dive site by a Weymouth safety vessel and was recovered safe and well, still clutching his scallops.
