GAP-YEAR DIVER DIES IN FIJI
25-year-old Deborah Jane Jennings from N Yorkshire died on Sunday 21 April after apparently
making a rapid ascent from a dive.
The gap year student was diving in Fiji after visiting Indonesia, India and Thailand. She is described
as a qualified and experienced diver. A post mortem examination of her body found that the cause of death
was arterial gas embolism following a fast ascent. There are no details of how the accident occurred,
but her family are unhappy with the lack of information forthcoming from West Side Water Sports,
who they believe were responsible for organising the dive.
They also claim to have received an email from the company, invoicing them for £1,300
for local costs, embalming and freight of their daughter's body.
