DIVERS RECOVER BODY OF HELICOPTER CRASH PILOT
Divers at Scapa Flow were called to assist the search for a helicopter which came down in the sea off the Brough of Birsay, Orkney.
The Northern Lighthouse Board Bolkow 105 helicopter was servicing the Brough Head lighthouse
when it got into difficulty and plunged into the sea at 11am on Friday 24 May. The RAF helicopter called out from Lossiemouth had only an oil slick on the surface to show a likely position.
Dive boats operating in Scapa were called to assist the search. A fishing boat later discovered the wreckage close to the shore in 10m. Divers were able to recover the body of the pilot from inside the crashed helicopter.
