DATELINE: 2nd November 2001
HORSEA HARDHATS
This month the Defence Diving School's Army wing is offering a limited number of civilian divers the opportunity to try out one of its historic Siebe Gorman standard dress diving suits.
On Saturday, November 17 at the training lake on Horsea Island, Portsmouth, Royal Engineer Army Diving Instructors will give up their time to run the dives, carried out in a suit exactly as first used by Royal Engineers in the 1830s to clear wrecks from Portsmouth Harbour's approaches.
A charge of £55 per person is being made, with proceeds going to a cancer charity. All participants will receive a commemorative photograph and a recompression chamber tour.
You need to hold a diving qualification, together with valid fit-to-dive certificate and insurance cover.
Places are being allocated on a first come, first served basis. Call Warrant Officer Tom Bridges on 02392 224031, or Taff Beardall on 02392 224043.
