DIVER LOST ON WRECK OF KINTYRE
50-year-old Dave Telford failed to surface after a 48m wreck dive on Sunday 3 March. His buddy raised the alarm.
The divers, members of the Red Fox diving club, were ascending from a dive on the Clyde wreck Kintyre. Telford was using twin 10 litre cylinders and had put up a delayed SMB to assist with the ascent. At 25m he appeared to lose buoyancy. Observers from the dive boat Delta Bravo saw the buoy disappear from the surface.
His buddy surfaced prematurely, and was given oxygen while Clyde Coastguard was alerted.
The Coastguard broadcast a MayDay and several ships, including the navy vessel HMS Blithe, conducted a search. Divers reported strong currents on the dive.
