DIVERS HONOUR US WAR DEAD
A team of British divers laid brass plaques and the US flag on the wrecks of landing ship tanks USS LST 507 and USS LST 531 to commemorate the hundreds American servicemen who lost their lives.
The carrier ships were sunk in Lyme Bay on 28 April while taking part in Operation Tiger - training exercises for the D-Day landings. 551 lives were lost when a fast moving German E-boat attacked the ships at 2am in the morning.
The dive team of Graham Jinks, Pete Taylor, Lawrence Loy and Alan Brooks were acting with the co-operation of veterans from the convoy and a survivor from the LST 507.
