ST ABBS SPLASH-IN
Roy Waller was Overall Winner of the St Abbs and Eyemouth Voluntary Marine Reserve Splash-in 2001, with a shot of a Yarrell's Blenny.
The shot also won Roy the Marine Life Portrait category of the competition, held in late August in the reserve's Berwickshire waters.
Another photographer, Mark Terry, made his own large splash by taking both Second Overall and Best Beginner titles.
Roy won a dive watch, supplied by At Abbs Dive Centre, and Terry a Beaver Dive Bag from Scoutscroft Dive Centre. In addition Roy, Terry and other top-three placing photographers in a number of categories won masks and Underwater Kinetics Mini Q40 torches donated by Sea & Sea.
"We were blessed with fantastic bank holiday weather, great diving conditions and a good turn-out," reserve warden Sarah Bowe told Divernet. "For the viewing and voting session, St Abbs village hall was crammed with over 120 people, keen to see the results from 27 diver entrants.
"The quality of the photography was outstanding, and it was good to see a substantial number of beginners [entrants whose pictures have not been placed in previous competitions or been published]. Overall it was a very successful event."
