ANCIENT SHELLS
Four very old live shells were exploded by ordnance experts after their discovery in Sydney Harbour, Australia.
Unusually, the shells were judged to date not from WWII or even WWI - but from more than 100 years ago, in the early days of shell technology that followed on from the use of cannonballs. The Sydney shells, which were found at a depth of about 20m off a cliff at the harbour's North Head, could have been misfires from a military fort, or dropped from a ship
