DATELINE: 8 October 2002
THE TIDE IS HIGH, BUT NO DRAMAS
The highest tides for four years passed off without any diver incidents, the Coastguard confirmed today. The biggest excitement was cause by a pod of pilot whales off Plymouth.
Predictions of flooding and increased incidents over the weekend of 5/6 October came to nothing after
calm weather on the South coast alleviated the impact of the unusually high tides.
Meanwhile, divers on board Loyal Watcher returning from a dive on the the wreck of White Star liner Afric spent half an hour watching a pod of approximately 8 pilot whales cavorting
close to the boat. "They were quite friendly and stayed around the boat for a while." said skipper Steve Wright. "The divers loved every minute."
