UWATEC RECALL PRE DEC 95 Aladin Air X NitrOx COMPUTERS
A class action by US divers against UWATEC over allegedly incorrect decompression calculations in pre Dec 95 Aladin Air X NitrOx computers has led to a recall.
The divers allege that the computer calculates the off-gassing achieved during a surface interval by assuming that the diver is breathing an oxygen enriched mix, rather than air. This leads to the amount of nitrogen loading in the body being underestimated on subsequent dives. Divers who suffered decompression illness after using the computer argue that the fault caused their injury. An internal UWATEC document apparently shows that the company were aware of the fault in 1996, but no recall was made.
Divers with pre Dec 95 models of the computer can return them and have them replaced by the latest Aladin Air Z NitrOx model. If you are uncertain as to whether your computer is pre 95, check the information on the link below.
