Diver drowns in swimming pool
A rebreather diver in America has passed out and drowned - in a dive centre's 3m-deep training pool.
According to a report in The Columbian newspaper, Harvey Harris, 51, from Wilder in Idaho, was qualified for his rebreather, similar to units employed by US Navy divers.
He used it regularly and, on the day he died, had called at the centre in New York State to collect his gas cylinder, having been diving the previous day. Because of his experience level, he was allowed to enter the pool alone.
Harris was found seated on the bottom of the pool, unconscious. He was hauled out and given CPR before transfer to hospital, but did not recover. A post-mortem concluded that he had died of accidental drowning, due to asphyxia.
