Centres declare readiness for visitors
Diver magazine has been contacting and collating responses from dive centres and boat operators in South-east Asia, to obtain a picture of how many are fully operational, partially operational or non-operational.
The list of centres questioned has been based on the magazine's current contacts list for the region. It includes centres in areas that were not affected by the tsunami, as well as in areas that were.
At the end of January, from about 500 emailed questionnaires, the magazine had received 107 responses - 43 from Thailand, 35 from Indonesia, 27 from the Maldives and 2 from Sri Lanka. The contacts list was relatively undeveloped for Sri Lanka and southern India.
Of the centres that responded, just three reported being completely out of action, and another three partially operational.
