Bodies of missing divers found
The bodies of Briton Penny Glover and Frenchman Jacques Filippi, who went missing while diving off southern France in late November, have been found.
Glover, a leading British Sub-Aqua instructor and instructor trainer, was lost with Filippi during a deep dive to 80m at Caramel Reef, off Porquerolles island. Initial searches using ROVs failed to trace the divers.
Continued ROV searches, reported to have been funded by Filippi’s family, finally located the divers’ remains on 5 January, reportedly at a depth of about 60m, half a kilometre from where they had disappeared. The bodies were recovered by French police divers and identified.
All the divers’ equipment, which would include dive computers and the rebreathers worn by the pair, is reported to have been recovered with the bodies. A French incident enquiry is reported to be under way.
In Britain, a book of condolence for Penny Glover, who led the BSAC’s rebreather training scheme, is open for contributions until 21 January at BSAC HQ, Telford’s Quay, South Pier Road, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire CH65 4FL (tel. 0151 350 6200). Electronic messages can be sent to inmemory@bsac.com
