Volunteer electrocuted
A Briton carrying out diving research in Fiji has been killed during an electrical storm.
Luke Molnar, 17, from Stretford in Greater Manchester, was part of a group sent out by London-based Coral Cay Conservation to research the reefs of the Fijian island of Tokoriki.
He is reported to have been in an office when, as a violent storm passed overhead, he heard a cry for help. He went to investigate and was electrocuted when he touched a metal washing line that had become electrified by a power cable that had been brought down and come in contact with it.
Colleagues are reported to have attempted to revive him, but Molnar is thought to have died instantly or very soon after electrocution. He was transferred by boat to a doctor on a nearby island, where he was pronounced dead.
Peter Raines MBE, Founder and CEO of CCC, paid tribute to Molnar. He had "achieved a great deal" during his time in Fiji, as a strong team member and popular individual.
Raines said CCC was "completely devastated" by the loss, and that "we will continue to do all we can to help and support (parents) Gill and Steve, and Luke's other family and friends".
