Explorer-40 BC recall
Diving BCs manufacturer Halcyon is recalling a batch of its Explorer-40 wing models, due to concerns over the integrity of valve attachments.
The Florida-based company says that the batch of Explorer-40s, sold after July 2005, could suffer "over time" from delamination around the over-pressure valve (OPV), leading to leakage.
The problem, says Halcyon, affects just 78 units and centres on "slight inconsistency" with a laminating machine, since replaced. The fault was brought to light during quality control checks.
The company says that it is "unlikely that most of these units will experience any problems". But it is asking owners of recalled units to return them to any Halcyon retailer or to their national distributor. The units will be replaced under Halcyon's worldwide warranty.
Britain's national distributor is Silent Planet Ltd, of Portland, Dorset (tel. 01305 860269). None of the recalled units were sold in Britain, but some examples could have been brought into the country after purchase.
Divers who wish to correspond directly with the American manufacturer can email its Technical Services department at techservices@halcyon.net
