Diver rescued from Loch Ness
A diver with a suspected bend was taken by ambulance to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, after a fast ascent from a 23m dive in Loch Ness.
Aberdeen Coastguard received an emergency call at 7.30pm on Weds 15 September from a group of three divers after an incident at Port Claire, Loch Ness.
One diver in his mid-thirties was on oxygen after a fast ascent from 23m and reported symptoms of tingling in his arms and legs.
Loch Ness has a reputation as a poor dive site with nothing but reeds to see, and poor visibility. The three divers claimed to have been in the area at the time and had chosen to do a dive 'out of curiosity'. Rumours that they were looking for the Loch Ness monster and that the fast ascent was the result of a surprise sighting have been denied.
Medics assessing the casualty determined that helicopter evacuation was unnecessary, and the diver was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he was discharged after a check-up and precautionary treatment.
