New British cave diving record
A new British record for depth in a cave has been set by Rick Stanton and John Volanthen at Wookey Hole, Somerset.
The two men used customised rebreathers, and shifted boulders using a lift bag in order to get around a blockage.
Having successfully passed the blockage that halted Rob Parker in 1986 at just short of 70m depth, the pair continued on to a new chamber and achieved a new record depth of 76m.
The dive took 5 hours and significantly extended the penetration into Wookey Hole. The pair hope to return to find Chamber 26.
