RNLI launches Diving Safely pack for UK divers
A free safety advice and information pack has been produced by the Royal National
Lifeboat Institute (RNLI), in cooperation with the Coastguard and diver training and safety agencies,
to promote safe diving practices.
The pack is a result of the efforts of the British Diving Safety Group, giving divers a series of checklists
to help prepare for dives, and a diving accident management flowchart to help deal with incidents. A list of
useful addresses is printed on the back and a handy, wallet-sized card is provided with useful phone numbers.
"Do not delay in seeking professional medical advice. If you have any concerns do not wait to call us"
declares the bottom line on the Diver Help Card.
This is certainly sound advice, following as it does on the back of a number of incidents where divers
delayed or even failed to contact the emergency services when an incident occured.
The pack has been made available as part of a diver safety campaign by the RNLI which culminated at the Birmingham Dive Show,
held on 15 and 16 November. Copies of the pack are available free by contacting the RNLI -
email them here.
