Divers and Operation Tiger veterans commemorate 60 year anniversary
Divers from SeaTech dive team visited the two wrecks of landing ship tanks - USS LST 507 and USS LST 531 - in the presence of veteran survivors of Operation Tiger, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the tragedy.
A service is traditionally held on 28 April each year at Slapton Sands in honour of the men who lost their lives when the landing craft, which were in training for the D-Day landings, were attacked by a German E-boat.
This year, to mark the 60th anniversary of the tragedy, US veterans were able to visit the wreck site while divers went down to the wreck. 80-year-old Alan Sickley, from Illinois, and 79-year-old William Hicks, from Michigan, laid a wreath at the site.
The two wrecks lie in 55m in Lyme Bay.
German TV company and ABC News covered the event from the dive charter boat Blue Turtle. LST 507 is listed at number 29 in Kendal McDonald's 100 Best UK wreck dives
