Diver dead, 3 hospitalised after carbon monoxide incident on dive boat
A 55-year-old man is dead and 3 others are in critical condition in hospital after spending the night on board a dive boat in Okinawa, Japan.
The group were on a dive trip to Izena island, and spent the night in a cabin below decks, without air conditioning. A faulty electrical generator on the boat appears to have been producing carbon monoxide. The ship's captain was sleeping on deck and suffered no ill effects.
The injured men are reported to be dive staff at an Okinawa dive shop, and remained on board the boat while the rest of the group stayed at a guest house on the island. The problem was discovered by the captain when he tried to rouse the group at in the morning.
