Shetland Coastguard launch radio-based safety information for divers
A series of 22 radio broadcasts for divers and other sea-users on avoiding danger and what to do in an emergency, are downloadable as MP3 sound clips from the Shetland Coastguard website.
The innovative broadcasts cover a range of topics, including
Water and beach safety
Medical diving advice
Explosive objects and what to do if you find them
Mobile phones at sea
Someone in trouble at sea - what to do
The broadcasts are largely aimed at recreational sea users such as divers, because 65% of Coastguard call outs involve leisure activities such as boating and diving.
The sound files can be downloaded from the Shetland Coastguard website by clicking on the Accident Prevention Initiative and choosing a download.
