Diving, dolphins, whales and sharks dominate top 5 of the universal wishlist
A BBC poll of 20,000 people to discover the top 50 things that people really want to do, puts diving and encounters with dolphins, sharks and whales in 4 of the top 5 positions.
50 Things To Do Before You Die is due to be screened on 17 September on BBC1 and reveals the experiences that most people nominated on their 'ultimate wishlist'. The underwater world makes an unexpectedly strong showing with the number one wish being to swim with dolphins, the number two wish being to dive the Great Barrier Reef. Whale-watching comes in at number 4 and diving with sharks is at number 5.
Daring and adventurous activities dominate the list, with skydiving, flying a fighter jet and white water rafting all making the top 20, the most common theme to people's wishes appears to be a desire to see the world, with well over half the wished-for experiences involving travel.
Interestingly, many people appear to be unaware that it is possible to encounter wild dolphins around the UK coast and that many UK divers come into contact with dolphins, basking sharks and minke whales in UK waters.
