Mystery train eludes divers
Two train engines found in 60m on the seabed off Cornwall by divers remain unidentified, despite early hopes that they were comandeered parts for use
in the trenches in the First World War.
The two steam engines were being investigated by Colin Eastman and his team of divers, who are searching for lost train wreckage.
Unfortunately the dimensions of the engines rules them out as part of the sought-after WW1 wreckage. The engines are 35-feet-long; or almost 12m in length, whereas the train engines on the wreck that Eastman and his team are hoping to find are 16-feet-long; or just over 5m in length. The size of the wheels on the engines doesn't correspond to the size of the wheels used on WW1 tank engines.
Eastman and his team plan to investigate more sites next year in the search for the lost trains.
