DIVER AWARDS 2006
Vote to win a break
Vote in the DIVER Awards and you're in with a shout of receiving your own great prize, put together by Snooba Travel. One lucky winner drawn at random will, along with a companion, be flown by KLM, via Amsterdam, to the island of Curaçao. The two will get to spend seven nights at the renowned Habitat Curaçao, a PADI 5 Star Gold Palm resort.
The resort is a short drive from the capital Willemstad. The week’s free car rental included in the prize will give you access to lesser-known dive sites, and allow you to explore the island in your own time.
Habitat offers “24/7 diving”, so certified divers can pick up a full tank at the dive dock at any time. A giant stride and a few kicks and you’re already experiencing some outstanding Caribbean diving at sites such as the house reef Nos Kas. Your prize includes five days’ unlimited shore-diving with tanks and weights – as much diving as you can manage!
Visibility frequently tops 30m and water temperature averages 28°C. There is a vast range of marine life to enjoy on the coral reefs (below), from the tiny to morays, barracuda and nurse sharks. The wreck of the Superior Producer freighter is a 40-minute boat ride away, resting on an even keel at 33m and offering some spectacular diving experiences.
You will stay in an air-conditioned room, with breakfast included. Set in attractive grounds, Habitat Curaçao has its own beach, restaurants, pool, well-stocked shop and spa.
For more information on all aspects of this trip, visit www.habitatcuracaoresort.com, www.snooba.com, www.klm.com or www.curacao.com
Terms & Conditions: Entry is open to all residents of the UK aged 18 and over, except for employees of the participating organisations. The winner will be drawn on 15 January, and the judges’ decision is final. The holiday prize is valid for 12 months inclusive from that date. The tickets can be requested no more than 28 days before the departure date, and will be subject to availability of KLM flights and accommodation at Habitat Curaçao. No extension of the prize will be allowed from the date specified,or change of destination/area. The holiday is not transferable – only the winner and nominated companion can use the tickets, travelling together. The tickets/holiday cannot be sold or auctioned and must be used together. Winners will be responsible for their own passport and insurance and no spending money is included.

THE DIVE INDUSTRY HAS BEEN SERVING you all year – providing equipment, training, travel, guidance and all manner of services in return for your cash.
We hope it’s done you proud, but now is your chance to tell us who went that step further and delivered very best value for money. The industry is agog with anticipation pending your verdict.
The rewards are, after all, considerable. At a ceremony earlier this year, the eight 2005 winners collected their bronze DIVER statuettes knowing just how much the awards would help to impress customers in the year to come.
This year, to ensure that the big boys don’t have it all their own way, we introduce a new category –
the DIVER Newcomer of the Year. We’re having a cooling-off period for the Wooden Weightbelt award – last year’s nominations suggested that this booby prize was getting a tad too personal!
Don’t leave it to others to decide who deserves the DIVER accolades – have your say. That way you also stand a chance of winning a fantastic prize for two in our holiday draw (see panel right).
Voting is easy – fill in the form HERE. But start thinking now, and remember, your vote helps to ensure that the awards go to those who deserve them.
- 1 DIVER Brand of the Year: Scubapro has led in this category for the past two years. The brand has clearly been ringing your bells, but which other contenders will give it a run for its money?
- 2 DIVER Product of the Year: Last year the Apeks ATX regulator took the honours. Regs, computers, cameras and BCs often crop up in the top three, but you can vote for any recent impressive item of dive gear.
- 3 DIVER Tour Operator of the Year: Tony Backhurst Scuba Travel has staked a strong claim in this category recently. Can it do it again, or do you have a favourite you’d like to see knock it off the top spot?
- 4 DIVER Dive Centre of the Year: Britain’s own Stoney Cove has seen off strong Red Sea competition for the past two years. Can it score the hat-trick in 2006, or will you collectively move your affections abroad?
- 5 DIVER Liveaboard of the Year: For two years the trophy has gone to Hurricane; before that it was Cyclone – are strong winds always destined to prevail in this category? Name your favourite boat, home or away.
- 6 DIVER Dive Destination of the Year: No one has yet managed to knock Egypt off its pedestal, though the Maldives and Indonesia keep knocking at the door. Will this be the year of the big surprise?
- 7 DIVER Retailer of the Year: We can only assume that many of you shop in Sheffield, as the mighty SDS Watersports has amassed so many of these trophies. Will your favourite outlet make a splash this year?
- 8 DIVER Publication of the Year: Books, DVDs and CD-Roms (magazines don’t count) – what entertained or informed you this year? The BBC has shone with Blue Planet and its off-shoots – time for a change?
- 9 DIVER Newcomer of the Year: We’re talking organisations that emerged during 2006 – it could be a new dive-gear manufacturer or distributor, a dive centre, school, liveaboard, shop or other service supplier.
IMPORTANT We CANNOT accept: more than one vote per person... emailed votes other than through www.divernet.com, and then only one per email address... votes from employees or commercial associates for their own or associated organisations. Only entries in which all the spaces have been completed (sensibly!) will be eligible for the Prize Draw.
Any decisions on admissibility are at the discretion of DIVER.
